It took a while for reality to sink in for the Kansas City Chiefs while they were losing Super Bowl 59 on Sunday.
Even down 27-0, players were confident they could come back and beat the Philadelphia Eagles. After all, this was their third straight Super Bowl, and they won the last two.
They likely also counted on the fact that they’d won games they weren’t supposed to win all season, defying whatever odds put in front of them. Sunday’s deficit was just another challenge they’d have to overcome, having become used to pulling wins out of nowhere.
Despite all of the above, the Chiefs had never found themselves in such a hole. But they were inspired by the New England Patriots coming back to beat the Atlanta Falcons after going down 28-3 and didn’t seem to have any doubt that they could force a similar reverse against the Eagles after beating them in the big game two years ago even though they were the better team.
