Former NBA center Oliver Miller, a member of the Toronto Raptors’ inaugural 1995-96 season, has passed away at the age of 54.
Eddie Johnson, another former NBA standout who played 17 seasons in the NBA, broke the tragic news in an X/Twitter post on Friday evening. The Raptors later put out a statement on Oliver Miller’s passing:
According to Chris May of KATV News in Little Rock, Arkansas, Miller passed away following a battle with cancer. The Fort Worth, Texas, native had three children and multiple grandchildren.
Miller was drafted 22nd overall by the Phoenix Suns in 1992, spending his first two seasons there before landing with the Detroit Pistons in 1994-95. Miller helped the Suns reach the 1993 NBA Finals in his rookie season, where they lost to Michael Jordan’s dynastic Chicago Bulls.
“The Big O” had his most productive season on the 1995-96 Raptors in their inaugural season, averaging 12.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Over his nine-year career, Oliver Miller averaged 7.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest.
