Pro Bowler Josh Allen Reveals He Is Changing His Name

Josh Allen has announced a name change ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end revealed his new name this week. As of next term, he will go by Joshua Hines-Allen and wear Hines-Allen on the back of his No. 41 jersey.

The two-time Pro Bowler announced the change on Tuesday, noting that it’s a tribute to his mother’s side of his family and other relatives who have worn Hines and Hines-Allen on their jerseys.

“Legacy is forever, and I’m proud to carry that tradition on the back of my jersey, following in the footsteps of my family, who have donned the Hines-Allen last name with so much pride and joy,” he said in a video. “My last name has been changed, but I’m still that person. And I will continue to play like it, play even better.”

Josh Allen Comes From A Very Athletic Family

Joshua Hines-Allen’s sister, Myisha Hines-Allen, plays for the Washington Mystics in the WNBA. Another sister, Kyra Hines-Allen, played basketball at Cheyney University, while another, LaTorri Hines-Allen, played basketball at Virginia Tech and Towson.

His uncle, Gregory Hines, was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 1983 and is in the Hampton University Athletics Hall of Fame. Another uncle, Keith Hines, played basketball at Montclair State.

The name change will also permanently separate him from the Bills quarterback, who bears the same name.

Fans with Allen jerseys need not worry. Hines-Allen will hold a jersey exchange in Jacksonville in September, allowing them to trade in their old Allen threads for new Hines-Allen ones free of charge.
