High School Football Star Tragically Shot And Killed At Age 16

Xyere Brooks had way more life to live, and he will never get to realize what his potential would’ve been after his life was taken away from him.

Brooks, a 16-year-old from Camden, New Jersey, was found inside the home. He was brought to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 2:15 p.m. Friday.

Multiple juveniles were inside the home during the shooting, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

At 12:35 p.m., officers responded to the 1500 block of Thorn Street and found Xyere with a gunshot wound inside of the residence. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances under which the firearm was discharged, authorities said.

Authorities said no criminal charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.


Those who knew 16-year-old Xyere Brooks describe him as a standout talent on the football field.

Family members believe his tragic demise was just a tragic accident.

“She put the gun to his head, and I guess she didn’t expect it to go off. To make a long story short, the gun went off on my brother, and he’s no longer here with us,” said the victim’s brother, Manazh Tompkins.

A 16-year-old from Camden, described as a committed student and a standout athlete, was shot and killed on Friday.

Xyere Brooks, a sophomore at KIPP High School in Camden, was killed in a shooting that has been described as a tragic accident.

Camden police say no charges have been brought in the case yet and that they are investigating how the shooting happened.

In the meantime, former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is speaking out.

He took to his X account and stated, “RIP King. Someone please DM a contact for his family.”
