A trial date has been set in Karmelo Anthony’s murder case following his indictment for the alleged killing of Austin Metcalf.

Anthony is set to stand trial for murder after confessing to stabbing Metcalf during a dispute at a high school track meet earlier this year.

According to pertinent court documents, Anthony’s trial will begin on June 1, 2026.

“A court official tells TMZ Sports that date is tentative — and it’s entirely possible it gets pushed out further. But, the official added it’s rare set dates ever get moved up,” TMZ Sports notes.

Anthony is facing a charge of first-degree murder, with a grand jury having gone over prosecutorial evidence and determining that there is indeed a case to answer.

He has been adamant that he was defending himself, while his lawyer, Mike Howard, has echoed the same and declared that “the jury will reach the right conclusion and justice will be done” once due process is undertaken.

A docket control hearing to establish a trial timeline has also been scheduled for next week, but the defendant is not required to attend.

Anthony, who is facing life imprisonment if found guilty, was initially held on a $1 million bond but was released after it was brought down to $250,000. He remains under house arrest and wears an ankle monitor, with permission necessary for him to leave his home.

The case has impacted both the Anthony and Metcalf families as one is fighting to keep their son while the other has lost theirs and is pushing for justice.

Social media personality Charleston White recently apologized publicly to the Anthony family after meeting them and going over details regarding the incident. He now claims to be of the view that Anthony acted in self-defense.

White also expects the teenager to beat the charges.
