A high school football player who also excelled at basketball was the victim of a three-car crash in New York, in which he sadly lost his life.
17-year-old Ricardo Carrero Chico is said to have lost control of the car he was driving, leading to the fatal accident.
The tragic collision occurred on State Route 590 near Browncroft Boulevard in Rochester, New York, on Tuesday evening.
Ricardo is said to have been northbound on the 590 when he crossed over the median into the southbound lanes after losing control of his car, hitting two vehicles. The other drivers were taken to hospital with minor injuries, but the teenager was not so lucky.
“Our thoughts are with everyone who knew and loved him. We are holding his family close in our hearts and offering our full support to the East staff and students who are grieving. As a support to students, counseling and emotional support services are available at the school,” the Rochester school district office said in a statement, per 13WHAM.
Ricardo Carrero Chico graduated from East High School, where he played both football and basketball, back in June.
The district added that it would respect the family’s privacy by not offering any further statements.
“The District is in contact with the family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time,” the statement continued. “The District will be respecting the family’s privacy by not providing any further statements.”

Ricardo’s mother, Yadira Chico, has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with the cost of flying her son’s body to Puerto Rico for his burial.
“The money we raise for him will help with the funeral cost in Rochester, as well as helping get Ricky back to Puerto Rico to be buried with his family,” she noted.
The page had raised $3,482 at the time of writing. You can make contributions here.
We at TPS offer our deepest condolences to Ricardo’s mother and the rest of his family during this trying time.
May he rest in peace.
