The Olympics come around once every 4 years. For a lot of these athletes, it’s a once in a lifetime type of opportunity. It’s hard enough to be one of the best in the world at your sport in general. But when you need to time it up perfectly with the ridiculously tight window of once every 4 years? You never know when your next chance is going to be.
It’s not the exact same for sports photographers. But then again, how many more chances do you think AP photographer Jerome Brouillet is going to get to photograph Olympic surfing in Tahiti? This is probably once in a lifetime for him. And holy shit did the man snap off maybe the sickest photo to ever exist.

I don’t know why anyone else would even bother to buy a camera at this point. No photo you take will ever be able to compete with that. I’ve never been a guy who is really into art or anything, but I get how people have such hard dicks about Renaissance paintings now. This shit is breathtaking. The line of the leash matching the line of the wave. The board being straight up matching Gabriel Medina. Everything about it makes me think the Olympics need to start handing out medals to the photographers. It just doesn’t feel right that Jerome Brouillet is going to leave Tahiti without being able to call himself an Olympic medalist for the rest of his life.
Sidenote: What a gig these guys get. Don’t get me wrong, Paris would be pretty cool as well. But getting sent to Tahiti to cover Olympic surfing has to be way up there on the all-time list of best assignments. Unless you’re Colin Jost and find yourself getting crushed by coral reef.
Checking in with @ColinJost….
Sounds like things are going GREAT 😂@NBCOlympics & @peacock pic.twitter.com/L6vdJJDNmP
