McKayla Maroney’s savage response after Simone Biles fired back at MyKayla Skinner

McKayla Maroney had time.

The former Team USA gymnast, who retired in 2016 after winning gold and silver at the 2012 London Olympics, didn’t hold back in a comment on Simone Biles’ latest Instagram post — which celebrated the Americans winning gold in Tuesday’s all-around final and seemingly shaded ex-teammate MyKayla Skinner.

“It doesn’t get more iconic than this.. She f’d around n found out fr. Feels like I need to apologize just to redeem my first name,” Maroney wrote.

A post shared by Simone Biles (@simonebiles)

It came after Biles captioned her post with: “Lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions ❤️🥇🇺🇸.”

It was an apparent reference to Skinner’s comments criticizing the women’s gymnastics team — Suni Lee, Hezly Rivera, Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles — for their work ethic, with the exception of Biles.

“And that’s on periodt!!” Chiles wrote.

Former Team USA gymnast Nastia Liukin, who won gold in the all-around event at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, added, “micdrop.”

“Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be. Just notice like, I mean, obviously a lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic,” Skinner said in a since-deleted YouTube video, which has gone viral on X.

The 27-year-old Skinner, who retired after winning silver on the vault at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, faced backlash — and later walked back her remarks in an apology on social media earlier this month.

In Maroney’s comment, where she said, “f’d around and found out,” that was a reference to Biles’ remark when she was asked about Team USA’s official name after winning gold in Paris.

“F– around and find out,” Biles said when her former teammate Aly Raisman asked about their team name during a press conference Tuesday.

Prior to that, she cheered for Team USA in a series of posts on her Instagram Story.

“LETS GO GIRLSSSS,” she wrote. “Women’s all around finals on rn!!!!!!!!”

Maroney retired from gymnastics in 2016 after winning gold and silver in the team and vault, respectively, at the 2012 London Games.

Skinner, who was an alternative for the U.S. at the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro, previously took the place of Biles on the vault after she dropped out of Tokyo 2020 due to the twisties.

Skinner and Biles both represented USA at the 2014 World Championships.

The U.S. women’s gymnastics team competed their redemption tour in Paris after they took home silver as the runner-up to Russia in the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Biles pushed through a calf injury — suffered during qualifying two days prior — to help Team USA beat Italy and Brazil, who took home silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Biles will compete in the individual all-around finals on Aug. 1.
