Avery Johnson had an opening game to forget, with his Kansas State losing to Iowa State in Saturday’s 2025 college football curtain raiser.
The game kicked off after the White House marked the return of NCAA football with a hype video and was held in Dublin, Ireland, with Iowa State leaving with a 24-21 win.
While Johnson impressed in the loss, throwing for 273 yards and two touchdowns, running one in himself, no one is discussing his performance.
Running back Dylan Edwards’ costly muffed punt may have dominated the headlines if not for the fact that the QB’s father and his brother got into a fight outside the Aviva Stadium after the game.
Avery Johnson Advised To “Disown” His Family
247Sports’ Tim Fitzgerald initially reported the altercation, but a video has since surfaced on Twitter/X, which can be seen below:
“Nah man I’d disown my family after that and NEITHER are coming back to another game,” one fan claimed.
“Guinness is a hell of a drug,” another joked.

A source told Fitzgerald that no arrests were made.
That’s definitely not the way Avery Johnson expected to start the season.
As if losing wasn’t bad enough, he now has to deal with the aftermath of his family members scuffling in the Dublin streets.
Fortunately, it doesn’t appear that any of them were hurt.
