Laken Snelling is in some serious trouble over allegations that she may have caused the death of an infant.
The college student at the University of Kentucky is facing charges after police say she hid her infant’s body in a trash bag inside a closet.
The 21-year-old senior at the University of Kentucky has been arrested in her infant’s death. The Lexington Police Department arrested her on Sunday.
Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Park Avenue last Wednesday for a report of an unresponsive infant. Officers found the infant “wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag,” per Fox 19 Now.
Lexington Police would later confirm that Laken Snelling was the mother of the deceased infant, and that she “admitted to giving birth.”
The news on children dying at the hands of others in sports has been rough lately. Earlier this week, Miami Hurricanes linebacker Adarius Hayes was charged three counts of vehicular homicide after a wreck that killed two children and a 78-year-old lady in May.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office will later determine the infant’s official cause of death.
“We can confirm that she has been a member of the STUNT team for the last three seasons. All other questions should be directed to the Lexington Police,” the university stated in a statement provided to The Independent.
Kentucky Wildcats Cheerleader Laken Snelling Facing Years In Prison
The cheerleader and college student competed on the university’s competitive cheerleading stunt team for three years, and now her life will be vastly different following her arrest over a deceased infant that she gave birth to and decided to discard.
Snelling “admitted to concealing the birth by cleaning any evidence, placing all cleaning items used inside of a black trash bag, including the infant, who was wrapped in a towel.”
She has officially been charged with “Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Concealing the Birth of an Infant.”
Snelling is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.
It is currently unknown who the father of the child might be. He wouldn’t be facing any charges unless he had knowledge of the incident or helped Snelling in any way with the death of the infant.
