Football fans are praying for Philadelphia Eagles fullback and special teams player Ben VanSumeren after he suffered a gruesome-looking injury in Thursday night’s season opener.
Ben VanSumeren suffered an injury on the game’s opening play, a 27-yard kick return by Cowboys wide receiver/returner KaVontae Turpin, and had to be carted off. In a wild and bizarre scene, star defensive tackle Jalen Carter was ejected moments later for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
You can see the clip of VanSumeren’s injury below, but be warned that it may be disturbing to watch:
Football fans came together to offer prayers and messages of support for Ben VanSumeren:

“Ben Vansumeren Brought off before the first Snap. Hope he is okay and makes a speedy recovery,” said a fan.
“Can only hope it’s not as bad as it looks for Garber grad Ben VanSumeren. He deserves better,” said a user.
Ben VanSumeren signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State in 2023. Unfortunately, his 2024 season was cut short by a significant knee injury he suffered during practice. Philadelphia went on to win Super Bowl 59 over the Kansas City Chiefs.
