A Pennsylvania high school football game turned ugly after one player was seen throwing an opponent’s helmet off before punching him in the face while he sat on the field.
The player in question, Anthony Petro of Baldwin High School, was caught on camera doing what’s described above during a 57-0 loss to Elizabeth Forward on Friday.
Of course, being on the wrong end of such a result can’t possibly feel good. However, it hardly justifies punishing someone else in the face.
Outbursts and fights on the football field are commonplace, yet what’s shown in the Twitter/X clip below isn’t something you see every day, as Petro rips his opponent’s helmet off and hits him right in the face while he sits and motions with his hands in the air.
Check it out here:
Petro definitely let his emotions get the best of him during the blowout loss and might not see the field again this season.
High School Football Player Who Got Punched Says He Harbors No Anger
The Baldwin High School Highlanders are pretty bad, going 0-10 last year, having won two games over the two seasons before that. Still, they aren’t quite as bad as the Columbia Eagles, who haven’t won a game in 10 years.
As for Petro, he’s likely to face a suspension and could possibly sit out the rest of the season.
The player who got punched, Landon Honick, seems like he would forget about the whole thing if it were up to him.
“There is no room for this type of activity in sports and this unacceptable,” he wrote in a tweet. “I’ve had many people reach out to me to see if I am ok? I just want everyone to know I am fine and I harbor no anger. I would like to wish Baldwin football the best of luck the rest of the season.”
Good on him.
