The Kansas City Chiefs have overcome a terrible 0-2 start by winning three of their last four games, putting GM Brett Veach in another position to buy at the trade deadline.
That said, the Chiefs certainly look vulnerable in a few areas, including the running game and the secondary. They’ll get a giant boost on Sunday, when star wide receiver Rashee Rice returns from a six-game suspension for his involvement in a hit-and-run accident in the 2024 offseason.
Unsurprisingly, a new report strongly indicates that the Chiefs are looking to address another skill position ahead of the trade deadline.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano wrote that the Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans and Los Angeles Chargers are teams he expects “to have interest in acquiring a running back ahead of the deadline.”
Graziano listed New York Jets star Breece Hall and Miami Dolphins sophomore Jaylen Wright as running backs who could be on the move.
To emphasize just how badly the Chiefs need a running back, consider that quarterback Patrick Mahomes leads the team in rushing with 222 yards and four touchdowns on 38 carries. Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt have only 214 and 187 yards, respectively.
Which Other RBs Could The Kansas City Chiefs Target Ahead Of The Trade Deadline?
Breece Hall obviously makes sense as a trade target for Kansas City, given his excellent production on a winless Jets team.
New Orleans Saints Pro Bowler and workhorse Alvin Kamara would also be an excellent addition, given his production as both a runner and receiver. Perhaps the Cleveland Browns are open to moving 2023 standout Jerome Ford, who lost the RB1 job to Quinshon Judkins.
The Philadelphia Eagles have hardly used former Green Bay Packers star AJ Dillon, who has just 60 rushing yards on 12 carries. Perhaps GM Howie Roseman would give Dillon away for a day-three pick.
The Chiefs love staying loyal to veteran players, but they have to accept that Pacheco and Hunt are no longer suitable RB1 options.
