Calls for the resignation of Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders are intensifying after Athlon Sports released a troubling report on the state of the university’s football program. The report outlines a toxic environment characterized by conflicts, bullying, and other negative behaviors, all of which have been denied by Coach Sanders and program officials.
Among the allegations detailed by Athlon Sports is an incident involving Colorado defensive back Shilo Sanders, who is accused of bullying Cormani McClain, a highly touted freshman. According to a former player, “Cormani was taking a lot of heat from everyone, and Coach Prime was simultaneously criticizing him and questioning his performance. During this period, Shilo slapped Cormani multiple times after a game, leading Cormani to scream threats in distress. The player noted the obvious toll this took on Cormani’s mental wellbeing, further aggravated by derogatory remarks from the coaching staff during practices.”
In light of these claims, there is a chorus of voices, including sports commentators like Mike Farrell, demanding that if these accusations hold true, Coach Sanders should step down. Farrell expressed that this was the kind of scandal that could dismantle a program and advocated for a new leadership to rebuild the tarnished team.
Moreover, Sanders has been noted for his reluctance to engage with certain media members, contributing to a growing perception of poor management under his leadership. Sports journalist Jeff Goodman highlighted the unusual level of attention and acclaim Sanders received despite leading the team to a lackluster season last year, emphasizing the disconnect between his media persona and the team’s performance.
Amidst these controversies, the pressure on Sanders continues to mount as the sports community and commentators call for accountability and change in the Colorado football program.
Colorado, coming off a season with a record of 4-8, is set to kick off their 2024 season on August 29 against North Dakota State.
So, Deion won’t answer questions from Denver Post reporter, or CBS local guy because of negativity.
I’ve never seen the coach of a 4-8 team get as much praise and attention as he and the Colorado program did a year ago. https://t.co/HhqkxLdmiy
