Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes football program are entering a pivotal Year 2 in Boulder.
The Buffaloes had a lot of hype early in the 2023 season, winning their first two games of the year against TCU and Nebraska. But things went downhill quickly after that. The team lost standout two-way player Travis Hunter to an injury and despite some strong play from quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the Buffaloes lost eight of their final 10 games, finishing the year at 4-8.
While expectations aren’t too high heading into 2024, the team is hoping to contend for a bowl game. There’s been some drama this offseason, though.
Athlon Sports published a bombshell report on the culture of the program earlier this summer. Several players have transferred out this offseason. And now, a coach has quit Coach Prime’s staff weeks before the start of the 2024 season.
According to Sports Illustrated, former college football All-American Trevor Reilly has stepped down from Coach Prime’s staff, weeks before the start of the regular season.
Reilly was an All-American player at Utah.
Colorado Buffaloes football assistant coach Trevor Reilly reportedly resigned before the start of fall camp. Sports Illustrated confirmed with CU’s SID staff that he was no longer with the program.
The former NFL linebacker started his coaching journey at Jackson State with Deion Sanders in 2021 and made his transition to Colorado last year. Reilly was Colorado’s special teams coordinator over the past 20 months. He was at Hawaii Football’s practice with former CU Coach Dennis Thurman on Aug. 9, the same day as CU Media Day.

It’s unclear what led to his departure, but Colorado’s coaching staff will be short one man heading into the 2024 regular season.
The Buffaloes are scheduled to open the year on Thursday, Aug. 29 against ND State.
