Gina LaPlaca is in some serious trouble.
The mayor of Lumberton, New Jersey, has been charged with driving under the influence, driving recklessly and endangering a child.
The 45-year-old was arrested at her home at around 6:00 p.m. on Monday after she admitted to police to drinking before picking up her son from daycare.
The 45-year-old Democrat was allegedly captured on video by another driver swerving all over the road as she nearly crashed into a utility pole. The footage was shared with police, according to charging documents.
Court documents also stated an open container of alcohol was found in the car.
Officers administered a field sobriety test, and LaPlaca “appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the offense.”
Here is how fans reacted:
“She drives drunk with an open container while their toddler is in the car & the husband is defending her? Plus, he knows she has a drinking problem & allows his child to be driven around by her? That kid needs to be removed from their custody for child endangerment,” one fan said.
“Impaired driving raises concerns,” a second person stated.
“DUI and child endangerment. Yikes!” a third person commented.
“Driving under the influence… and under some serious scrutiny. ,” a fourth person on X commented about Gina LaPlaca.
One last person added: “Husband says the criticism is exaggerated? She drove drunk with her baby in the car, there’s no amount of exaggeration that’s too much.”
It was just earlier this month when Gina LaPlaca was removed from a town meeting after cursing at a woman.
LaPlaca was elected to township committee in 2020 and re-elected in 2023.
